Maleficent is a 2014 American fantasy film directed by Robert Stromberg and written by Linda Woolverton. The film stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, a powerful fairy who lives in the Moors, a magical forest realm bordering a human kingdom. As a young girl, she falls in love with a human boy named Stefan, who later betrays her and cuts off her wings to become the king. Seeking revenge, Maleficent curses Stefan's newborn daughter Aurora, who will fall into a death-like sleep on her 16th birthday unless she is kissed by true love.
The film follows Maleficent's relationship with Aurora as she grows up under her watchful eye.
