Td Bank Buy Foreign Currency

When we refer to foreign currency, we are referring to a currency other than Canadian Dollars. A foreign currency exchange is a purchase that occurs when you purchase foreign currency from us or we purchase foreign currency from you.

An exchange rate is the price at which one currency can be purchased or sold for another currency. For example, the exchange rate determines how much in Canadian Dollars it will cost to purchase U.S. Dollars. Exchange rates fluctuate throughout the day.

When funds to be deposited into your account with us are in a currency that is different from that account, such as with an incoming wire transfer, we convert the funds into the currency of your account, and then deposit them into your account. The exchange rate we use is our applicable exchange rate in effect when the deposit is posted to your account.

How do we set our exchange rates:For each foreign currency purchase where we set the exchange rate, the exchange rate we use is a retail exchange rate, except for purchases and sales between banks and other large financial institutions in the interbank (wholesale) market where an interbank exchange rate is used.

Cash and non-cash rates:Exchange rates for foreign currency transactions not involving physical foreign currency cash (bank notes), such as transfers, payments, cheques or drafts, are generally more favourable to you than rates for buying and selling physical foreign currency cash. This reflects our costs and risks of shipping, handling and holding foreign currency in cash.

This new service gives travelers a more convenient way to order currency before an international trip. TD Bank's recent Spending Abroad survey indicates that 77% of Americans are planning to take two or more vacations overseas in the next two years. It also reported that 27% are planning on taking five or more vacations to another country.

"In our recent study, we discovered that nearly 6-in-10 Americans exchange currency before leaving the U.S. and a total of over 80% exchange currency for their international trips," said James Wolanski, Managing Director, Global Foreign Exchange, TD Securities. "With the majority of Americans looking to exchange currency here in the United States, TD aims to provide a convenient and seamless digital experience, even in the world of travel. With this platform, we now offer consumers the ability to order foreign currency from a computer or mobile device and easily obtain currency before a trip abroad."

Consumers do not need a TD Bank account to order currency. Foreign currency orders can also be placed at any TD Bank Store in-person. Many TD Bank locations carry common currencies on hand for an immediate in-person exchange. Over 60 foreign currencies can be ordered to the stores. TD Bank also has several Foreign Exchange (FX) Centers that immediately offer a wider selection of up to 15 foreign currencies.

TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank, is one of the 10 largest banks in the U.S., providing more than 9 million customers with a full range of retail, small business and commercial banking products and services at more than 1,200 convenient locations throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Metro D.C., the Carolinas and Florida. Exchange rates fluctuate, at times significantly, and you acknowledge and accept all risks that may result from such fluctuations. If we assign an exchange rate to your foreign exchange transaction, that exchange rate will be determined by us in our sole discretion based upon such factors as we determine relevant, including without limitation, market conditions, exchange rates charged by other parties, our desired rate of return, market risk, credit risk and other market, economic and business factors, and is subject to change at any time without notice. You acknowledge that exchange rates for retail and commercial transactions, and for transactions effected after regular business hours and on weekends, are different from the exchange rates for large inter-bank transactions effected during the business day, as may be reported in The Wall Street Journal or elsewhere. Exchange rates offered by other dealers or shown at other sources by us or other dealers (including online sources) may be different from our exchange rates. The exchange rate you are offered may be different from, and likely inferior to, the rate paid by us to acquire the underlying currency.

In connection with our market making and other activities, we may engage in hedging, including pre-hedging, to mitigate our risk, facilitate customer transactions and hedge any associated exposure. Such activities may include trading ahead of order execution. These transactions will be designed to be reasonable in relation to the risks associated with the potential transaction with you. These transactions may affect the price of the underlying currency, and consequently, your cost or proceeds. You acknowledge that we bear no liability for these potential price movements. When our pre-hedging and hedging activity is completed at prices that are superior to the agreed upon execution price or benchmark, we will keep the positive difference as a profit in connection with the transactions. You will have no interest in any profits.

We do not accept any liability for our exchange rates. Any and all liability for our exchange rates is disclaimed, including without limitation direct, indirect or consequential loss, and any liability if our exchange rates are different from rates offered or reported by third parties, or offered by us at a different time, at a different location, for a different transaction amount, or involving a different payment media (including but not limited to bank-notes, checks, wire transfers, etc.).
